AI visibility audit

AI visibility audit: what, where and why is cited instead of you

An AI visibility audit measures how ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews describe your business and your competitors on a fixed set of buyer questions, then explains why. APG Agency checks 15 points in six groups, compares you with competitors and returns a prioritised plan. The free check comes first; the full audit fee is credited when a GEO or AEO program starts within 30 days.

What AI visibility is and how we measure it

AI visibility is the share of buyer questions in which an AI assistant names your brand, plus the share of answers that cite your site as a source. We measure both on a fixed prompt set, per engine, with repeated runs, because the same question can produce a different answer an hour later. One screenshot is not a measurement; a share over time is.

Sample result, anonymised: a Vilnius B2B services company, 24-question set, August 2026. Mentioned in ChatGPT 3 of 24, Perplexity 5 of 24, Gemini 1 of 24. Google AI Overviews shown for 15 of 24 questions, the company's domain among the sources in 2. Cited instead: third-party lists and directories 41 percent, competitor sites with separate service and price pages 33 percent, portals and media 26 percent.

Five buyer questions, three models, who is cited instead of you, three findings. One page, within 48 hours, no commitment.

Full audit

40–100 questions, four engines with repeated runs, competitor comparison, 15-point site and entity check, prioritised plan with scopes and prices. Quoted per case; credited against a program started within 30 days.

Audit plus implementation

The audit becomes month one of AEO Start from €790 or GEO Start from €900 per month, with monthly monitoring on the same question set.

How the audit runs

  1. Scope: your markets, languages, one to three topics and the competitors you lose deals to.
  2. Prompt set: 15–30 questions for the free check or 40–100 for the audit, grouped by intent: definitions, comparisons, prices, "best X".
  3. Runs: four engines with repetitions, using Waikay, the AI visibility platform we work with, plus manual control; every source classified by type.
  4. Site and entity check: 15 points in six groups: technical access, extractable content, entity consistency, schema, external presence, measurement.
  5. Report and plan: what to do on the site (AEO), what to do in the entity and outside (GEO), with scope and price, and one number to track monthly.
  6. Retest: the same set 30 days after implementation, so the change is measured rather than assumed.

The 15 checkpoints in six groups

GroupWhat we checkTypical finding
TechnicalAI bot access in robots.txt, llms.txt, HTML rendering, canonicals, mobile speedAd and analytics tags push mobile LCP past 4 seconds; AI bots blocked by a template rule
Content and entityAnswer blocks, tables, author and date, one address and phone everywhere, Organization and Person schemaThe registry lists a different address than the site, so AI returns both
External and measurementPresence in the lists AI cites, own data worth citing, a fixed prompt set with monthly shareAbsent from all six lists Perplexity cites for the category

Every finding comes with the source that proves it: the answer text, the cited URL and the date, so your team or ours can act on it without re-checking.

What the audit report contains

Visibility per engine

Mention share and citation share in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Overviews, for you and for each competitor, on the same questions.

Who is cited instead

Sources classified by type: third-party lists, competitor sites, portals, directories, media, Reddit. The lists you must enter, ranked by how often AI cites them.

What AI gets wrong

Old addresses, wrong founding years, services you no longer offer, a competitor named under your brand. Each with the source it came from.

15-point site and entity check

Pass, partial or fail on each point, with the fix and who can do it: your developer, your content team or ours.

Prioritised plan

Ordered by impact per hour: on-site AEO work, entity clean-up, external citations, and the paid layer where organic mentions will take months.

One number to track

The prompt set and the baseline become the monthly monitor for GEO services.

Who needs an AI visibility audit now

  • B2B companies whose buyers shortlist suppliers in ChatGPT or Perplexity before the first call.
  • E-commerce brands whose category questions are already answered by Google AI Overviews.
  • Brands that AI describes incorrectly, and marketing leads who need one number for "where we are in AI" before planning a budget.
  • Agencies and in-house SEO teams that want to measure their clients' AI visibility without building their own tooling.

What the audit does not show: exact AI traffic volumes, because assistants publish none; guaranteed future positions, because models and sources change; and the reasons behind a single answer, because we report shares over repeated runs, not one screenshot.

Questions and answers about the AI visibility audit

How much does an AI visibility audit cost?

The short check of five questions across three models is free. The full audit with 40–100 questions, four engines, competitor comparison and a prioritised plan is quoted per case, depending on markets, languages and the number of competitors, and the fee is credited in full when a GEO or AEO program starts within 30 days.

How is it different from an SEO audit?

An SEO audit checks how Google crawls and ranks your pages. An AI visibility audit checks what assistants say about you, which sources they use, and whether your entity is consistent outside your site. It uses the SEO audit as a prerequisite and adds the answer, entity and citation layers.

Which tools do you use?

Waikay, the AI visibility platform we work with, for repeated runs across engines; our own scripts for source classification, the same ones used in our 504-answer Lithuanian study; manual checks in incognito sessions; GA4 for referral traffic from chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai.

How long does the audit take?

The free check arrives within 48 hours on working days. The full audit takes five to ten working days, depending on the number of markets and languages, and ends with a one-hour walkthrough of the plan.

Does it work for a single small market such as Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia?

Yes. We run the questions in the local language, because assistants answer differently in Lithuanian, Latvian or Estonian than in English. Our study found English prompts return on average 5.5 brands and Lithuanian prompts 3.8, so small-language markets are less crowded and easier to enter.
